Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So it was, when all the kings of the Amorites who were on the west side of the Jordan, and all the kings of the Canaanites who were by the sea, heard that the Lord had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel until we had crossed over, that their heart melted; and there was no spirit in them any longer because of the children of Israel. – Josh. 5:1
Israel’s enemies were already defeated before Israel ever picked up a sword. Why? Because they “heard” what the Lord had done. Their hearts melted. There was “no spirit in them.”
What you think is a physical battle is actually a spiritual one. You can prepare as much as you want! But if you aren’t spiritually fit, you will lose. On the other hand, if you properly prize your spiritual well-being – ample time spent in the Word and in prayer – the victory is yours before you even start to fight.
Your fitness for battle is determined far more by your spiritual fitness than by your physical fitness. Are you prayed up? Are you armed with the word of God? Are you ready to let the enemy know that because God is for you, no weapon can stand against you?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for making me spiritually fit. Thank You for filling me with boldness and faith! I can face any battle because I know You are on my side. Thank You for being my strength, in Jesus’ name.
