Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Now Joshua said to Achan, “My son, I beg you, give glory to the Lord God of Israel, and make confession to Him, and tell me now what you have done; do not hide it from me.” – Josh 7:19
Under the Old Covenant, Achan needed to fear confession. Confession brought death. But under the New Covenant, we have nothing to fear! As soon as we confess our sins, God is faithful to forgive us:
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 Jn 1:9
Knowing that confession brings forgiveness, shouldn’t we confess early and often, with abundant joy?
God already knows everything you’ve done. Confess freely and openly, knowing that there is forgiveness for all your sins – past, present, and future – at the foot of the Cross!
Prayer:
Father, thank You for forgiveness! Help me to confess and repent with joy – never fear – knowing that You are faithful to forgive all my sins in Jesus’ name!
