Commentary from Pastor Mike White:
And the apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith.” – Lk 17:5
The apostles knew they needed more faith. But instead of hiding their lack of faith, or masking it with vague spiritual jargon, they simply asked Jesus to increase their faith. And He did!
Faith is absolutely necessary. It is the very substance of the things for which we hope, and the evidence that our prayers are effective (Heb 11:1). With faith, we can move mountains; but without faith, we crumble under their weight. But faith does not spring up overnight. It builds gradually as we experience God’s faithfulness in our lives.
It is not illegal to ask God for more faith. Asking God to increase our faith should never be embarrassing. The apostles asked Jesus to increase their faith, and He responded by helping them to develop the faith they needed to speak life into the world around them.
Do you need more faith for something in your life? Don’t be afraid; ask God for more faith, and watch as He delivers!
Prayer:
Father, help me to never be embarrassed to ask for more faith. Increase my faith! Help me to take You at Your word, and stand on Your promises as proven fact.
