Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
He who despises the word will be destroyed, but he who fears the commandment will be rewarded. – Prov 13:13
Your fate hinges on your perception of God’s word. Those who despise the word will be destroyed; but those who fear God’s commandments will be rewarded!
So what does it mean to “fear” God’s word? “Fear” is the Hebrew word yare, which means to revere.[1] When you give the word of God elevated position in your life – when you read it with reverential awe – you will prosper in everything you do.
Do you value God’s word above all else?
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. – Jer 31:33
Prayer:
Father, build in me a reverential awe for the word of God. Thank You for not only putting Your word in my mind, but also for writing it on my heart!
