Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then Isaac sowed in that land, and reaped in the same year a hundredfold; and the Lord blessed him. – Gen 26:12

Isaac didn’t just sow anywhere; he sowed where God told him to sow. He didn’t sow indiscriminately; he sowed intentionally. There was a famine going on in Gerar, where Isaac was staying. Isaac could have done the “sensible” thing and gone down to Egypt to avoid the famine, just as his father Abraham had done (Gen 12:10).

But God didn’t want Isaac to do what was easy to avoid famine; He wanted him to stay put. So Isaac stayed. Because Isaac sowed where God wanted him to sow, he was abundantly blessed! Isaac reaped a hundredfold harvest in the middle of a terrible famine, in a land that didn’t even belong to him. All things are possible with God!

Where does God want you to sow? It will be better for you in the center of His will, than anywhere else you could ever want to be. Don’t just take the easy path because it seems safe and secure – a “sure thing.” Take the path God wants you on. Sow where He wants you to sow, and you will reap a hundredfold harvest!

Prayer:

Father, I will go where You want me to go. I will sow where You want me to sow! Help me to be obedient, and step out and do everything You want me to do, where You want me to do it, in Jesus’ name!
