Commentary from Pastor Michael White:|
And it came to pass, when Abraham’s servant heard their words, that he worshiped the Lord, bowing himself to the earth. – Gen. 24:52
Abraham’s servant was given a near-impossible mission. Abraham sent him to Mesopotamia to find a wife for his son Isaac. The servant couldn’t bring Isaac to ask his preference. He had to rely 100% on God. This was the only cue Abraham gave his servant for success: “God will send His angel before you” (Gen. 24:7).
But Abraham’s servant hit his mark as soon as he arrived. Before he had even finished asking the Lord for help (v 15), Rebekah walked out. She was the perfect woman for Isaac: “beautiful to behold” (v 16) and one of God’s people. Abraham’s servant had done it! God had given him success. So what did he do? He “worshiped the Lord, bowing himself to the earth.”
Our first response to success should always be worship. Don’t pat yourself on the back! Don’t celebrate with your friends. Drop to your knees. Thank and honor God for everything He has just done. Because the truth is, every success you have comes directly from Him.
Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. – Jas. 1:17
Prayer:
Father, thank You for giving me good success! I am grateful, and I recognize that You are the source of every successful outcome in my life. Help me to give You the honor You deserve for causing me to prosper, in Jesus’ name.
