Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So Judah said to Simeon his brother, “Come up with me to my allotted territory, that we may fight against the Canaanites; and I will likewise go with you to your allotted territory.” And Simeon went with him. – Judges 1:3
Judah could have launched into battle on his own! But instead, he asked his brother for help. And the result was astounding. With Simeon’s help, Judah conquered the cities of Bezek (v 4), Jerusalem (v 8), Hebron (10), and Debir (v 11). And with Judah’s help, Simeon conquered Zephath (v 17), Gaza (v 18), Ashkelon (v 18), and Ekron (v 18). God gave His children substantial victory because they chose to work together.
Victory is possible in isolation; but it is virtually guaranteed when you work together with your brother. We are stronger together! Even though Simeon had no obligation to go up with Judah, he went because Judah asked! And in return, Judah and Simeon shared in a victory that was more momentous than either could have imagined.
With whom is God calling you to work in this season? With whom is He calling you to partner and co-labor? What victories might you see in partnership with others that would be impossible if you insist on working alone?
Prayer:
Father, I know there is strength in numbers. I want to see victory in Your name! And I am more than willing to work with my brothers to see it happen. Thank You for reminding me to work with others, in Jesus’ name!
