Now Jephthah the Gileadite was a mighty man of valor, but he was the son of a harlot… – Judges 11:1
In God’s eyes, Jephthah was a “mighty man of valor;” but in the eyes of other people, Jephthah was “the son of a harlot.” God called Jephthah a mighty warrior! But other people called him a runt. So what did Jephthah do? He, “…fled from his brothers and dwelt in the land of Tob; and worthless men banded together with Jephthah and went out raiding with him” (v 3).
Jephthah valued the opinions of other people more than he valued the promise of God. God said he was still a son! But other people said he was unworthy for God’s inheritance. Jephthah listened to them, instead of Him.
Whom will you listen to? Other people might say you’ve made too many mistakes to be used by God! But God says you are Mine. You are still a son! You are still a daughter! What everyone else thinks does not matter, if God says you belong to Him. He will do everything He has promised to do through you: no matter what other people say.
So Jephthah advanced toward the people of Ammon to fight against them, and the Lord delivered them into his hands. And he defeated them from Aroer as far as Minnith—twenty cities—and to Abel Keramim, with a very great slaughter. Thus the people of Ammon were subdued before the children of Israel. – Judges 11:32-33
Prayer:
Father, I pray Your voice would be the loudest voice in the room. I refuse to listen to the misguided opinions of others. I am going to keep my mind stayed on You! Thank You for loving me – no matter what – in Jesus’ name!
