Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then the children of Israel arose and went up to the house of God to inquire of God. They said, “Which of us shall go up first to battle against the children of Benjamin?” The Lord said, “Judah first!” – Judges 20:18

The children of Israel knew they had a battle on their hands. The fight was inevitable! But before they charged into battle, they went and “inquired of God.”

Do you ask God before rushing into major decisions? Or do you wait to tell Him what you’ve done – asking for forgiveness instead of permission – and then expect Him to clean up the mess? When we don’t seek God, catastrophe happens; but when we seek Him before every decision – no matter how big or how small – we will bear good fruit as a result.

Prayer:

Father, make me one who seeks You first! I don’t want to wait and ask for Your forgiveness; I want to lead by asking for permission. I will come to You first, in Jesus’ name!
