CityLight Pastor Commentary:
“He must increase, but I must decrease” (John 3:30). We are finite beings. It follows, therefore, that when Christ increases in us, the rest of us (our flesh) must decrease. We have never been a church that focuses on the activity of the devil and spiritual warfare; and we have never been a church that focuses on sin. That does not mean we do not acknowledge their existence and hate them; it does mean that we choose to focus on the Cross, knowing that when we draw closer to God, we naturally move further from sin. If you’re trapped in a dark room, it does no good to curse the darkness. All that is required is to flip on the light.
Prayer:
Father, help me to occupy my entire field of vision with Your Son Jesus Christ! I don’t want to see or focus on anyone else. As I draw closer to Him, I will be drawn away from everything that ails me.
