Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.” – Jn. 4:34
Jesus was “wearied from His journey” (Jn. 4:6), so He sat by a well. Isn’t it comforting to know that even Jesus got tired?! If even the Son of God needed to stop to rest, how much more do we?
But look at what refreshed Jesus. He didn’t stop to have a drink. Instead, He talked to a woman at the well about spiritual water that would spring up, “…into everlasting life” (v 14). He didn’t eat a meal! In fact, when the disciples offered Him a meal as He rested, He replied, “I have food to eat of which you do not know” (v 32).
Jesus didn’t do what you and I would do to get refreshed! He 1) shared the Gospel and 2) was obedient to His Father. Evangelistic obedience is the remedy to your constant state of fatigue! You don’t need a vacation; you need to rely on the word of the Lord more than ever before, and step out and do what He says in Jesus’ name!
If you need refreshing: try something new. Ask God to send you someone who needs to hear about Jesus! And whatever He calls you to tell them: speak.
Prayer:
Lord, I need to be refreshed! But the methods I have been employing aren’t working anymore. Help me to 1) share Your word, and 2) do what You say, in Jesus’ name!
