Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your son lives.” So the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way. – John 4:50
A nobleman came to Jesus in Cana of Galilee. This man’s son was sick and “at the point of death” (v 47), so he, “…went to [Jesus] and implored Him to come down and heal his son” (v 47).
This father didn’t just hear the word of the Lord; he acted on it! The word Jesus spoke was the answer to this man’s prayer in potential form: his son would live! But the man had to 1) receive the word and 2) act on it to have his prayer answered.
Are you acting on the word God has given you? Are you stepping out in faith, and believing that what Jesus says is true? When Jesus healed ten lepers, they were cleansed “as they went” to show themselves to the priest (Lk 17:14). When Jesus healed the woman with the issue of blood, she “…came from behind and touched the border of His garment” (Lk 8:44). When Jesus healed blind Bartimaeus, it was because the blind man cried out, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me” (Mk 10:46)!
Miracles happen when you not only believe the word, but you step out and act like it’s true! What are you doing with the word God has spoken over your life?!
But do you want to know, o foolish man, that faith without works is dead? – James 2:20
Prayer:
Father, help me to act on Your word. I want to live my life like Your word is true: with no excuses! Help me to believe Your word like never before, in Jesus’ name!
