Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So she fell on her face, bowed down to the ground, and said to him, “Why have I found favor in your eyes, that you should take notice of me, since I am a foreigner?”
Ruth had a painful past. Her husband was dead. She had followed her mother-in-law, Naomi, back to Jerusalem. She left her father and her mother behind – everything she knew was gone! – to honor Naomi. And when she arrived in Jerusalem, what did she find? The favor of the Lord.
Boaz noticed Ruth. He had heard of everything she had done for Naomi:
And Boaz answered and said to her, “It has been fully reported to me, all that you have done for your mother-in-law since the death of your husband, and how you have left your father and your mother and the land of your birth, and have come to a people whom you did not know before.” – Ruth 2:11
And he would not rest until Ruth had been honored for her faithful devotion to Naomi.
You may have a painful past. But you clung to the Lord. You served Him with all your heart! And today is a new day. Today is the day you begin to experience the supernatural favor of the Lord over your life. Jesus is your Boaz! Everything you have done for God has reached His ears. You cannot earn His favor; but you have positioned yourself through service and made yourself the target of His love. And He has given His very life to make sure that you receive everything you need from Heaven.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for supernatural favor! I don’t deserve Your goodness! I am just a foreigner: a gentile. But You are merciful towards me. I have found favor in Your sight! I am so thankful, in Jesus’ name.
