Commentary from Pastor Mike White:
“Most assuredly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father do; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.” – Jn 5:19
If even Jesus Christ did not act without seeing what God wanted Him to do, how much more do we have to wait for specific instructions from heaven before we lunge into action?
The Bible is not meant to be a written record of things that happened at one time, but that could never happen again. God’s word is meant to be a template of everything we can expect God to do in our lives. The Book of Acts is not a memoir of times past; but an invitation to invite God into our future!
If we see Jesus do it, we should go out and do it in like manner. Jesus healed the sick, raised the dead, cleansed the lepers and cast out demons. Then, He instructed us to do the same (Matt 10:8)! What’s more, He called us to greater things than even He was able to perform (Jn 14:12).
Ask God what He wants you to do. Wait to act until He shows you specifics. When God reveals His purpose for you, you can go out and fulfill His desires, knowing He will support you all the way!
Prayer:
Father, give me patience. Speak to me, and help me to listen for Your voice. I want to act out of obedience, and do everything I see You do in Scripture. I want to be Your hands and feet, in Jesus’ name!
