Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

He said to them, “Make room, for the girl is not dead, but sleeping.” And they ridiculed Him. But when the crowd was put outside, He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose. – Matt 9:24-25

Jesus had to get rid of the haters. He put the crowd – those who didn’t believe – outside. Then – and only then – He went in and raised the ruler’s daughter back to life.

Doubters nullified Jesus’ healing virtue. He was always willing to heal; but not everyone was willing to receive. When Jesus returned to His hometown, people didn’t believe who He was. “Is this not the carpenter’s son?” they said (Matt 13:55). They were “offended at Him” (Matt 13:57) because He claimed to be the Son of God. They were offended at Him because He could do something they didn’t want to believe He could do! Familiarity breeds contempt; and contempt cancels the miraculous. He could, “…not do many mighty works there because of their unbelief” (Matt 13:58).

Are you believing for something big? Put the haters outside. Surround yourself with people who are going to pray for you with faith that your breakthrough is coming. Seal yourself off from people who sow doubt and discouragement into your life. Give them a break, and come back when your breakthrough has happened! Your miracle just might depend on it.

Prayer:

Father, surround me with people who are going to pray for me. Give me the courage to shut out negative voices, and focus on positive ones. Fill me with Your word, so I can boldly declare Your truth, in Jesus’ name!
