Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then Isaac called Jacob and blessed him, and charged him, and said to him: “You shall not take a wife from the daughters of Canaan.” – Gen. 28:1
This was the first conversation between Isaac and Jacob since the “incident.” What incident, you ask? Jacob was a scoundrel. He stole Esau’s blessing! He lied to his father, Isaac, and told him he was his brother: all so he could claim a blessing that didn’t belong to him.
So when Isaac called Jacob, you might guess it would have been to yell at him! But that guess would be wrong. Jacob had been deceptive; but Jacob was still Isaac’s son. Isaac didn’t call Jacob to yell at him. He called him to bless him. Even after Jacob’s deception, Isaac had nothing but words of encouragement and life for his son.
This is how God treats you! Sure, you’ve made some mistakes. But God still wants to talk to you. He still wants to love on you! He still wants to task you with things He wants you to go out and do. No mistake can ever cancel your destiny. And no sin can ever make God stop caring for you. Return to Him, and be blessed!
“Return, O backsliding children,” says the Lord; “for I am married to you. I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion.” – Jer. 3:14
Prayer:
Father, thank You for forgiving me. Thank You for loving me! I am so grateful that You never show me Your back. You always show me Your face, in Jesus’ name.
