CityLight Pastor Commentary:
Saul was a mighty king over all Israel, and there was a pattern to his behavior. The Holy Spirit would always come upon him before he went out and accomplished something miraculous that God had asked him to do. In 1 Sam 10:10, the “Spirit of God came upon him” and he began to prophesy. In 1 Sam 11:6, the “Spirit of God came upon Saul” and he led Israel to victory over the Ammonites. At the outset of his reign, Saul fully relied on the Holy Spirit to empower him for everything he did, which is why he was such a powerful king. Are you relying on God’s Holy Spirit to empower you for everything you set out to accomplish?
Prayer:
Father, help me to rely on Your Holy Spirit to accomplish every task you set in front of me – no matter how simple or complex! I want to rely on You for everything I do. Help me to stay patient and trust in Your Name!
