Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then he stood and cried out to the armies of Israel, and said to them, “Why have you come out to line up for battle? Am I not a Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose a man for yourselves, and let him come down to me.” – 1 Sam. 17:8

The Israelites were terrified as they faced Goliath and an army of Philistines. Day after day, Goliath would break ranks to antagonize the army of Israel. He mocked the Israelites, and told them to send over their best warrior. But the Israelites didn’t send anyone, because they knew Goliath would win.

But God sent a man. God sent David, who was just a “youth” (v. 33) at the time (Biblical scholars estimate David was 15 years or younger at the time of his battle with Goliath). Goliath huffed and he puffed! But God’s anointed struck him down.

As a New Testament Christian, you don’t need to wait for God to send a David into your life. Jesus has already defeated your Goliath. The enemy can break ranks and say whatever he wants! Satan can come to you and taunt you that you’re not strong enough, smart enough, or good enough. But you don’t have to worry about facing him for a one-on-one, winner take all battle. Because Jesus already has. And Jesus already won.

Let the enemy talk. Let the enemy taunt! Because he has already been defeated – once and for all – by our Savior Jesus Christ.

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. – 1 Cor. 15:57

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the victory You have given me in Jesus Christ! I don’t have to respond to the enemy’s taunts, or the enemy’s talk. I will reply with a simple acknowledgment: Jesus has already won.
