Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then David spoke to the men who stood by him, saying, “What shall be done for the man who kills this Philistine and takes away the reproach from Israel? For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God?” – 1 Sam 17:26

It was the same battle; but David brought a fresh perspective. For forty days, Israel had been lining up in battle formation against the Philistines. For forty days, Goliath came and taunted Israel. For forty days, every man of Israel fled before the “champion” of Gath (v 4).

But David brought a fresh perspective. David didn’t see a scary enemy; He saw an opportunity for victory! David got angry because the enemy was intimidating God’s people. Instead of allowing the standstill to persist, David insisted that a victory take place!

Aren’t you tired of letting the enemy push you around? The enemy has no right to defy you. You serve the living God! His Holy Spirit is in you. He will give you victory in every conflict, because the battle belongs to Him (v 47)!

It’s time for new perspective. Stop letting the enemy push you around. You are not a feeble victim who needs to run from the enemy. You are a child of God who is more that a conqueror (Rom 8:37), and victory is yours!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for new perspective. Fill me with strength to defy the enemy! Help me to love my life in light of the victory Jesus won for me on the Cross. I refuse to be timid. I will be bold as a lion, in Jesus’ name!
