Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. – Jn. 10:3
This is a beautiful picture of the way Jesus leads. He opens the door and speaks to you. He beckons you to step into the opportunities he has put in front of you. He calls you by name and reminds you that He is for you! And then He leads you out.
God does not push; He leads. He will not force you to do something alone! He will not force you to make a decision apart from Him. He will, however, open the door He wants you to walk through. And then He will invite you with a verbal invitation to drop what you are doing, and pick up His agenda instead! He will lead you out, with comforting and constant reminders through His word that you don’t have to do anything without His help. When God asks you to do something, implicit in His request is the promise that He will do it with you.
Prayer:
Lord, who are we that You call us by name and lead us out? We are so grateful that we don’t have to figure out what to do on our own! We simply have to listen to Your voice. Teach us how to hear from You, and to do what You say, in Jesus’ name!
