CityLight Pastor Commentary:
“Jesus said to her, ‘Your brother will rise again’” (John 11:23). Lazarus was dead, and Mary and Martha were wailing. All they could say to Jesus was, “If you had been here, [Lazarus] would not have died” (v 21). We can sense Jesus’ frustration as He listens to Mary and Martha. They just didn’t understand! When Jesus said that Lazarus would “rise again” (v 23), He didn’t only mean that Lazarus would ascend into heaven after death. He meant that Lazarus would be restored to life here and now! Too many Christians have resigned themselves to only hoping in life after death, instead of living in resurrection power right now! Don’t miss out on everything God has for you. We are meant to see God’s goodness in the land of the living (Ps 27:13); He will show you wonderful things if you just ask!
Father, show me what resurrection life looks like! I don’t want to live a dead life; I want to walk in the power and anointing that Your Son Jesus Christ enjoyed and then passed on to us.
