Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Then Abishai said to David, “God has delivered your enemy into your hand this day. Now therefore, please, let me strike him at once with the spear, right to the earth; and I will not have to strike him a second time!” And David said to Abishai, “Do not destroy him; for who can stretch out his hand against the Lord’s anointed, and be guiltless?” – 1 Sam 26:8-9

David and Abishai snuck into the enemy’s camp. There was Saul – the man who was trying to kill David – right in front of them, fast asleep! Abishai wanted to kill Saul right then and there; but David knew better: “Who can stretch out his hand against the Lord’s anointed?”

Your victory is certain; but it matters how you take it. David knew he would eventually be king; but David also knew it would be wrong to reach out and take Saul’s life, because God had made Saul king! So the only way David was willing to accept the throne is by waiting for God’s timing to unfold, instead of taking matters into his own hands.

Don’t rush your destiny. You don’t need to take matters into your own hands! God’s timing is perfect; so let it unfold according to His will. When it does, the victory He gives you will be greater than any you could have ever imagined!

Prayer:

Father, I know my victory is coming! Help me to wait in faith while it does. I refuse to take matters into my own hands! I will wait on You, in Jesus’ name.
