CityLight Pastor Commentary:
“And it shall be, when you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the mulberry trees, then you shall advance quickly. For then the Lord will go out before you to strike the camp of the Philistines” (2 Sam 5:24). David had a healthy habit: he always sought the Lord before he attacked any opposing army. When Saul was king, David followed orders. Once he was king himself, David still followed orders: directly from the throne room of God. Most of the time, God told David to go out and conquer his enemies, guaranteeing him victory. But sometimes God told David to wait, so that He could defeat his enemies for him. Before you even take a breath in the morning, seek the counsel of God. He will tell you what you should do at all times; and He is always right!
Prayer:
Father, help me to be sensitive to Your voice! I want You to lead and guide me every step of the way. I won’t move until you tell me where and when.
