Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

And Joab sent messengers to David, and said, “I have fought against Rabbah, and I have taken the city’s water supply. Now therefore, gather the rest of the people together and encamp against the city and take it…” – 2 Samuel 12:27-28

When the water supply was compromised, the city was as good as defeated.

Jesus promised that when we believe in Him, “…out of [our hearts] will flow rivers of living water” (Jn 7:38). Our water supply – God’s Holy Spirit – is our life line. Without Him, we are lost. Satan’s goal is to cut off our water supply. If he can convince us that God’s Holy Spirit does not give us life, then we are as good as defeated. If he can entice us to cut off communication with God, then we quickly become arid and dry. Without living water, we perish.

Refresh your connection to God’s Holy Spirit. You are His temple (1 Cor 6:19), and He is your God!

Father, thank You for the gift of salvation. Thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit to take up residence inside of me! Help me to place the highest value possible on Your presence. I want intimacy with Your Holy Spirit, no matter the cost.
