Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
A disciple is not above his teacher, nor a servant above his master. – Matt. 10:24

If Jesus suffered persecution, you will too. If Jesus had people spit in His face, you will too! If Jesus had people misunderstand Him and judge Him everywhere He went, you will too! No servant is above his master; so if Jesus had to deal with people hating Him even though He did everything He could to bless them, what makes you think you will avoid it?

This mainly applies to two areas of your life: suffering and service. If even Jesus was not above suffering, neither shall we be. And if even Jesus was called to serve, so too will we be! You are called to suffer for – and serve – people who will never say thank you, and might even hate you for your service. But just because it isn’t easy, doesn’t mean it isn’t right.

Do not run from the call to love like Jesus. Embrace it, and count it all joy!

My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. – Jas 1:2-3

Prayer:

Father, help me to serve well when service is required. Help me to suffer well when suffering is required! And help me to see that, as long as I have You, there is no such thing as suffering or lack.
