Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And the king said to the people, “I also will surely go out with you myself.” But the people answered, “You shall not go out! For if we flee away, they will not care about us; nor if half of us die, will they care about us. But you are worth ten thousand of us now. For you are now more help to us in the city.” – 2 Sam 18:2-3

David was a man of the people. No matter the battle, David wanted to be there! He refused to send his people out to battle alone. Instead, he went with them. This is the heart of a true king! Honorable leaders yearn to fight with the men and women they lead. Dishonorable leaders distance themselves from the battle.

Know this: you have a good King. Wherever Jesus sends you, He is going too:

And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen. – Mk 16:20

Also know this: you are called to lead by example. When you ask the people you lead to do something, go with them. They will never forget it.

For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. – Heb 4:15-16

Prayer:

Father, thank You that Jesus led by example! Thank You that He never asks me to do something He hasn’t already done. Healing, deliverance, prayer, ministry, holiness: He’s done it all. And because He has, I know I can, in Jesus’ name.
