Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

“Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” – 1 Kings 3:9

God invited Solomon to ask for anything. “Ask!” He said. “What shall I give you?” But Solomon’s response might surprise you. He didn’t ask for silver or gold. He didn’t ask for victory over his enemies. He asked for a heart change.

Leadership and promotion start with a change of heart. You can rearrange the surface all you want; but unless you let God dig deep, nothing will be transformed. Solomon knew this! He refused to hide his faults and insecurities before God. Instead, He invited God into his heart to change them; and as a result, God made him the wealthiest and wisest king to ever live.

What can God do in your life if you invite Him to change your heart?

Prayer:

Father, I need a heart change. You have called me to do great and awesome things; but I can’t do them on my own. Change my heart! Make me more like You, so I can go out and do everything You ask of me, in Jesus’ name!
