Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

…the pots, the shovels, and the bowls. All these articles which Huram made for King Solomon for the house of the Lord were of burnished bronze. In the plain of Jordan the king had them cast in clay molds, between Succoth and Zaretan. – 1 Kings 7:45-46

Out of the clay came the bronze. Solomon wanted the articles of the temple to be made out of bronze because it is a durable, beautiful metal. But he needed clay molds to get his finished product. The molds needed to be clay so they could be shaped accordingly; but with mutability comes mortality.

You are a clay vessel (2 Cor 4:7). God made you with clay so He can mold you and shape you according to His purpose. But out of you will come a beautiful, and permanent, finished product. The beauty you produce will last for generations, just as the articles in Solomon’s temple did.

Prayer:

Father, help me to lean more than ever on Your strength. I am just an earthen vessel; but You are doing a mighty work in me!
