Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
While Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are seeking you. Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them.” – Acts 10:19-20
God told Peter to expect visitors. Cornelius sent for Peter; but Peter didn’t have to wonder if the men who came to collect him were good or evil. God told him what was coming in advance!
More often than not, we wait for something to happen before we pray. We meet someone new, and then ask God if they will be a good influence. We go into an interview, and then ask God if He wants us to take the job. We make plans for the weekend, and then ask God if our plans line up with His will. But what if you didn’t have to wait until after things happened to pray for them? What if you knew what was coming in advance? What if you knew God’s will before you made major decisions?
If you believe in Jesus, God’s Holy Spirit lives in you. He will tell you “things to come” (Jn 16:13). Amos 3:7 says, “Surely the Lord God does nothing, unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.” God will speak to you in advance! Are you making time to listen?
Prayer:
Father, thank You for telling me things to come! Help me to make time to pray at the beginning of every day. I know Your will is to prepare me – in advance – for everything coming my way! Help me to make time to listen, in Jesus’ name.
