Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

Then the word of the Lord came to [Elijah], saying, “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” – 1 Kings 17:8-9

Elijah never had to find provision on his own. Wherever he went, God arranged for someone to provide for him. First, God commanded ravens to bring him meat and bread:

The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook. – 1 Kings 17:6

When the brook dried up because of a drought (v 7), Elijah didn’t panic! God spoke to Elijah as soon as the brook dried up. Elijah wasn’t left to his own devices, wondering if God’s goodness had run out! He simply waited for further instructions, and moved forward according to God’s plan.

Are you trying to provide for yourself? Or are you trusting that God has commanded provision wherever you are called?

Prayer:

Father, thank You that You are Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord Who Provides! Provision isn’t just something You do, it’s who You are! I trust You for miraculous provision, no matter what my situation, in Jesus’ name.
