Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to Him, “Look, Your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath!” – Matt 12:2

Religious people point fingers; righteous people hold up hands:

But Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and he sat on it. And Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; and his hands were steady until the going down of the sun. – Exodus 17:12

The Pharisees saw Jesus’ disciples doing something they didn’t agree with; so instead of starting healthy dialogue, they complained to God! They could have sought to understand the disciples; but instead they rushed to judgment!

When you mess up, does your church surround you and help heal your wounds? Or do they attack and make things worse? When you miss the mark, do your friends counsel you in healthy ways that encourage? Or do they kick you while you’re down just to make themselves feel better?

When someone else sins, how do you respond? I believe God is looking for people who will hold up hands instead of pointing fingers. Are you willing to be what He wants to see?

Prayer:

Father, help me to refrain from pointing fingers. Instead, I want to hold up hands. I want to support my brothers and sisters who are in need and caught in sin. I want to help them get better, instead of adding judgment that makes things worse! Help me to respond as You would respond, in Jesus’ name.
