Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So Ahaziah died according to the word of the Lord which Elijah had spoken. Because he had no son, Jehoram became king in his place, in the second year of Jehoram the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah. – 2 Kings 1:17
Had Ahaziah repented, his life would have been spared! How do I know this? Because that is exactly what Hezekiah did when he found out he was supposed to die:
Then he turned his face toward the wall, and prayed to the Lord, saying, “Remember now, O Lord, I pray, how I have walked before You in truth and with a loyal heart, and have done what was good in Your sight.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly. – 2 Kings 20:2-3
And when Hezekiah repented, God extended his life by “fifteen years” (v 6). The difference between Ahaziah and Hezekiah? Hezekiah sought the Lord; Ahaziah did not. Hezekiah humbled himself! Ahaziah did not.
Do not sit back and blindly accept whatever life throws your way as an unfortunate inevitability. Throw yourself at the feet of Jesus! Fall on your knees and ask God for help! He will bring you out and make you better than ever before. He will extend your life, in Jesus’ name!
Prayer:
Father, thank You that I have a say in my destiny! I pray that I would never be too proud to ask for help. I pray that I would never be so silly that I accept what the enemy wants for me as my destiny! I want all that You have for me in this life: nothing less and nothing more, in Jesus’ name.
