Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So the woman arose and did according to the saying of the man of God, and she went with her household and dwelt in the land of the Philistines seven years. – 2 Kings 8:2
God is speaking. He is speaking all the time! He speaks to you through His Word (if you read it). He speaks to you in times of prayer (if you listen). He is always speaking! But when you hear His voice, will you do what He says?
Elisha warned the Shunammite woman that a seven-year famine was coming. So without hesitation she got up and “did according to the saying of the man of God” (v 2). She and her household left their land, their house, and everything they had ever known, and went and lived with the Philistines – the enemies of Israel! But they were glad they did. Because as the famine dragged on, they were safe and protected.
God will tell you what’s coming so you can avoid disaster and prosper in His will for your life! But when He speaks, will you do what He says?
For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also. – Jas. 2:26
Prayer:
Lord, make me a doer of Your Word! I don’t want to just hear what You have to say and then stop there. I want to do what You tell me to do! Give me a heart of radical and immediate obedience, in Jesus’ name.
