Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. – Acts 19:5-6

In Acts 19, Paul encountered a group of Christians. They already “believed” (v 2), but Paul wanted to know if they had tasted the “more” God had to offer. He wanted to know if they had received the Holy Spirit!

When you believe in Jesus, the Holy Spirit dwells in you. But there is more! He will also come upon you. He will fill you up to the point of overflow, so you are spilling out His glory everywhere you go! That distinction will make all the difference in your life. It will be the difference between potential and power: knowing people can be healed, and seeing them healed with your very own eyes!

Have you received the Holy Spirit? Do you speak in tongues, and can you prophesy? If not, don’t panic! All Paul had to do was lay hands on the disciples, and they received. Visit your local church, and ask your pastor to pray for the baptism in the Holy Spirit. You will be happy you did.

Prayer:

Father, fill me with Your Holy Spirit! I want to prophesy and speak in tongues. I know I am only one prayer away from walking in the fullness of the Spirit You desire for me!
