Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But the people held their peace and answered him not a word; for the king’s commandment was, “Do not answer him.” – 2 Kings 18:36

The leaders of Assyria – a foreign nation preparing to attack Judah – came to the gates of Jerusalem. The leaders of Assyria disparaged the name of the Lord. “What confidence is this in which you trust?” they asked (v 19). “How then will you repel one captain of the least of [our] servants?” they chided (v 24).

But the people of Jerusalem held their peace. They answered them not a word, because that is what their king told them to do. And then, once the enemy quieted down, they went to their king and told him everything their enemy had said:

Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, Shebna the scribe, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of the Rabshakeh. – 2 Kings 18:37

You have an enemy named Satan who does not want you to fulfill the destiny and calling God has on your life. He will come and lie to you in the lowest moments of your life. He will try to make you believe that God doesn’t love you! He will try and get you to forget that God always protects His people. But when Satan tries to trick you, respond just as the leaders of Israel did.

Do not answer him. You don’t owe Satan an answer! Just take his threats and bring them straight to God, your King! God will protect you, and He will completely disarm the enemy. And you will be left wondering why you ever wasted any time fearing the enemy at all.

Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord. – Rom. 12:19

Prayer:

Father, thank You for protecting me! I ask that You would make me immune from the threats of the enemy. I won’t listen to him because I don’t have to! I will listen to You instead, in Jesus’ name.
