Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
“But concerning the Gentiles who believe, we have written and decided that they should observe no such thing, except that they should keep themselves from things offered to idols, from blood, from things strangled, and from sexual immorality.” – Acts 21:25
“Love will cover a multitude of sins” (1 Peter 4:8). But just because you can receive forgiveness, does not mean you should put yourself in places where you constantly have to ask for it! Jesus came and fulfilled the Law; yet that did not mean His disciples could do whatever they wanted. There were still behaviors they ought to avoid to prevent unnecessary pain and heartache. There were still distractions they ought to pass over to make sure their eyes stayed fixed on Jesus!
You are a Christian. Because you believe in Jesus, you have been forgiven of all your sins: past, present and future! But that doesn’t mean you get to do whatever you want! All that matters is, what does God want you to do?
Prayer:
Father, give me discipline. Give me wisdom to discern what will draw me closer to you, and to do only those things! I recognize that just because I am saved does not mean I can do whatever I want. I now have a responsibility to show other people what it looks like to follow Jesus!
