Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
And after some days, when Felix came with his wife Drusilla, who was Jewish, he sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ. – Acts 24:24
Paul was in prison again! Paul had done nothing wrong, yet forty men had waited in an ambush and tried to kill him! So in an effort to keep Paul safe, Felix – the governor of Caesarea – “left Paul bound.” This wasn’t fair! Paul was wrongfully accused and wrongfully imprisoned. The only reason he was in prison was because it was easier for Felix to leave him there than to take him out!
But God had a plan. Felix, the governor, needed to hear the Gospel. And that is why God allowed Paul to be taken to Caesarea. Felix, along with his wife Drusilla, “sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ” (v 24). When Paul gained an audience with the governor, he could have advocated for his own interests! But instead, he took the opportunity to advocate for faith in Jesus Christ. He boldly preached the Gospel to this powerful man, whose faith in Christ could change an entire region of the globe.
Never underestimate God’s plan. You might feel like you’re in prison! But maybe God sent you there to preach. Open your mouth and share the Gospel: wherever you are, in Jesus’ name.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for sending me to share the Gospel! I want to preach the Gospel to anyone who needs to hear about Jesus. I am so grateful that I have the most amazing mission: to preach the Gospel in this life, so that as many people as possible can be with You (and me!) in Heaven in the next.
