Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

But this I confess to you, that according to the Way which they call a sect, so I worship the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the Law and in the Prophets. – Acts 24:14

Paul’s life was on the line! The Jewish leaders accused him of inciting rebellion and wanted to kill him for believing in Jesus. Yet instead of defending himself, Paul used his only chance to speak as a Gospel presentation. God gave Paul an opportunity to preach the Gospel to an entire courtroom of people who didn’t know Jesus! And what God provided, Paul seized.

Because Paul chose to defend the Gospel instead of himself, he had the chance to preach the Gospel to Felix, the governor of Caesarea. Felix was so intrigued that he, “…sent for Paul and heard him concerning the faith in Christ” (v 24). When God knows He can trust us to put His interests ahead of our own, He will give us an audience with culture-shapers: men and women who have the influence and power required to change entire regions. Paul’s goal was not to win his own freedom; it was to allow others the chance to receive theirs!

For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. – Matt 16:25

Prayer:

Father, make me selfless. Jesus laid down His life for me; so I will make it my mission to lay down my life for others, in Jesus’ name!
