Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
These were the potters and those who dwell at Netaim and Gederah; there they dwelt with the king for his work. – 1 Chron. 4:23
The “potters” had one mission and one purpose: to dwell with the king for his work. They didn’t want to be close to the king so they could get something from him! They dwelt with him to give something to him. They knew that the greatest honor was to do his work! And they knew that they had to dwell with him to get it done.
What a beautiful picture of the way we are invited to live with Jesus, our King! This is the reason you are alive on this earth: to dwell with Jesus for His work! You are God’s “workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them” (Eph. 2:10). God created you in Christ Jesus to do something specific that nobody else can do like you! But if you want to get His work done, you have to be close to Him.
Dwell with the King. Do His work! You can never be more satisfied than one who is employed in lifelong service to the King.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for filling me with Your Spirit to do the King’s work! It doesn’t matter where You send me: I will go as long as I get to be with You. It doesn’t matter what You ask me to do: I will do it as long as I get to do it in service to You! I am so grateful for Your goodness, in Jesus’ name!
