Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Now as he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are beside yourself! Much learning is driving you mad!” But he said, “I am not mad, most noble Festus, but speak the words of truth and reason.” – Acts 26:24-25
In the middle of Paul’s trial, Festus – the governor – called Paul crazy! But look how Paul responds. He doesn’t retaliate by calling Festus a name in return. He doesn’t get angry and refuse to share the Gospel anymore. He calls Festus noble: he issues a compliment in the face of the insult he has just received!
Respect is the foundation of any Gospel presentation. People don’t care how much you know, until they know how much you care. We are Jesus’ hands and feet. Our role is to meet people where they are, and respect them – and their right to make their own decisions – in that place.
Will you show people respect, so they want to hear what you have to say?
Prayer:
Father, help me to respect the men and women You put in my life. I know that respect is the foundation of any Gospel presentation. Help me to prize respect, in Jesus’ name!
