Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Now Joseph had been taken down to Egypt. And Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him from the Ishmaelites who had taken him down there. – Gen. 39:1

Joseph was “taken” somewhere new; but his identity had not changed. He was still Jacob’s son! He was still a young man who had received powerful dreams from God about his destiny. The Lord was still with him; and he was still “a successful man” (v 2)!

It’s new territory; but it’s the same you! Just because you’re in a new place does not mean who you are has changed. Joseph didn’t plan to go to Egypt; but God would use Joseph’s character as the foundation for success no matter where Joseph ended up.

Your scenery might have changed; but you are still the victor God created you to be. Now step out and be great, in Jesus’ name.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for making me a (wo)man after Your own heart! I might feel like I’m sidelined; but I’m still the person You made me to be! My identity and my foundation in You will never change, in Jesus’ name.
