Commentary from Pastor Michael White:

And it happened that the father of Publius lay sick of a fever and dysentery. Paul went in to him and prayed, and he laid his hands on him and healed him. So when this was done, the rest of those on the island who had diseases also came and were healed. – Acts 28:8-9

Paul was shipwrecked! This was a disaster! He could have panicked and thrown his hands up in the air, distraught that he was lost on an island in the middle of the ocean, with no way out!

But Paul knew something we should know: God turns calamity into opportunity. He turns misery into ministry! God needed Paul on that island so he could minister to the people there. Malta experienced revival because Paul showed up: many received Jesus, and all who had diseases were healed!

Give your “disaster” over to God; and watch Him use it for breakthrough. He will take your misery, and use it as an opportunity for ministry!

Prayer:

Father, thank You for redeeming every trying circumstance in my life for Your glory! Help me to trust in You like never before. Even when I’m lost and it doesn’t seem like there’s a way out, I know You are the God who delivers!
