Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
So David, the elders of Israel, and the captains over thousands went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obed-Edom with joy. – 1 Chron 15:25
Encountering the presence of God should be joyful! David and the leaders of Israel didn’t go to encounter God’s presence with frowns on their faces, or fear in their hearts. They knew their lives would be radically changed and transformed by the presence of God, so they embraced His presence with joy!
I was raised thinking I always had to be serious in church. There was no laughing, no moving, and no fooling around! But Scripture says “He who sits in the heavens laughs” (Ps 2:4). God gives us the oil of joy for mourning (Is 61:3)! Church service shouldn’t feel like a funeral; it should be a joyful celebration of everything Jesus did for us on the Cross!
Prayer:
Father, fill me with abundant joy! I pray our church services would be full of laughter in Jesus’ name!
