Commentary from Pastor Mike White:

And David gathered all Israel together at Jerusalem, to bring up the ark of the Lord to its place, which he had prepared for it. – 1 Chron 15:3

David’s earnest desire was to host God’s presence. But he recognized something important: in order to host His presence, we need to prepare. David specifically set aside and designed a place to enjoy God’s presence. David set a day, and a time, when the entire nation of Israel would invite God’s presence into their midst. He didn’t simply sit around and wonder why God still hadn’t shown up! Instead, he did everything within his power to make sure adequate preparation was made.

All of us want to experience more of God, whether we know it or not. The difference between those who encounter His presence, and those who do not, is preparation. Are you making space for God in your life? Are you setting aside time every day to pray? Are you boldly approaching the throne of grace (Heb 4:16)? Are you crying out to Him, knowing that He will listen, and answer?

When we prepare to host His presence, God will honor our plans.

Prayer:

Father, help me to prepare for Your presence. Strengthen me to set boundaries: to make time to spend alone with You. I know that when I make space for Your presence, You will make Yourself known!
