CityLight Pastor Commentary:
“…God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did…” (Rom 4:17). Faith is not denial. As Paul describes faith to the church at Rome, he explains that faith is speaking life into the dead. Faith is calling into existence those things which do not already exist because God wants them to materialize. So many Christians get this backwards. Instead of calling those things which do not exist into existence, we try to pretend that things that do already exist aren’t there. That’s denial; not faith. Denial is looking at your body when you’re sick and denying that anything is wrong. Faith is acknowledging the sickness but speaking healing into your flesh. Faith means acknowledging reality, but recognizing that God is calling us up into a greater, heavenly reality!
Prayer:
Father, help me never to deny reality. Faith is not denial. Help me to simply recognize that the heavenly reality you want for me is greater than the earthy reality I see around me right now. The way I can partner with you to bring heavenly reality to earth is through prayer. Help me to pray with confidence, faith and boldness – in JESUS’ NAME!
