Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying, “Arise, take the young Child and His mother, and go to the land of Israel, for those who sought the young Child’s life are dead.” – Matt 2:19-20

God’s timing is perfect. In Matt 2:13, an angel of the Lord told Joseph to “flee to Egypt.” Joseph and his family had to leave so Jesus could grow. They had to retreat to safety so God’s plan could be fulfilled; and when it was safe to come back, God let them know.

God will speak to you to protect you. He will tell you to leave unsafe or unprofitable situations for your own protection. He will tell you to retreat to Him in prayer to regain your focus and keep your eyes on Him! Then, when it’s safe to get back to His mission for your life, He will let you know.

Don’t take retreat as failure. God will move you for your own protection. Then, when your enemies are defeated, and the groundwork for breakthrough has been laid, He will bring you back.

Prayer:

Father, help to me be patient! I know You move me to unexpected places for my own protection. I trust You, with my whole heart, and I refuse to rush Your plans for my life, in Jesus’ name!
