Commentary from Pastor Mike White:
And David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the Lord God–my God–will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you, until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the Lord.” – 1 Chron 28:20
Solomon was chosen by God to build His temple in the city of Jerusalem. God’s Holy Spirit gave David insanely specific plans to build the temple. God provided quantities of silver and gold too heavy to be counted for construction. Solomon had all the direction and resources he could ever need. But his work was far from finished!
God’s promise was only a starting point. David instructed his son to be strong and of good courage. He instructed him to have spiritual tenacity: a persistence fueled by supernatural understanding that everything he was called to do was for a purpose so much bigger than he could adequately comprehend. David told Solomon not to fear; for when God makes us a promise, He will be with us to see it through. God’s Holy Spirit strengthens us to do what needs to be done.
So, God’s beloved: What has God promised you? Be strong and courageous. Know that He is with you! Go and do it.
Prayer:
Father, I know You have called me to great things. You have given every resource I could possibly need to accomplish my life’s purpose. Help me to be strong, and of good courage. Never allow me to fear, in Jesus’ name. Strengthen me to go out and do it!
