Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
But now I am going to Jerusalem to minister to the saints. For it pleased those from Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints who are in Jerusalem. – Rom. 15:25-26
Even the saints need service. Paul was traveling the world preaching the Gospel! His mission was to save the lost. But in all his traveling and preaching, he never forgot about the “saints:” those who had already received Jesus.
This tells us something. Paul was armed with a contribution for the “poor” (v. 26) among the saints at Jerusalem. Unfortunately, there were still saints (i.e. believers) in Jerusalem who were “poor.” That means that becoming a Christian doesn’t mean your problems are just going to evaporate! You will still have specific, measurable and material needs that have to be met.
Yet also notice that God did not leave them poor. He provided for their every need! In fact, God cared about alleviating poverty among the saints at Jerusalem so much that He moved the churches in Macedonia and Achaia to financially contribute to their well-being.
God didn’t leave them poor! And He won’t leave you poor either. Yes, you have needs! But God will provide for every single one.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for meeting every single one of my needs! I need provision in many areas of my life; and as I lift up my needs to You in prayer, I know that You will provide for me, in Jesus’ name!
