Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
Now I urge you, brethren, note those who cause divisions and offenses, contrary to the doctrine which you learned, and avoid them. For those who are such do not serve our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly… – Rom. 16:17-18
Scripture gives us a unique prescription to deal with people in our lives – and our churches – who cause division. “Note” them, and avoid them. Do not get trapped in endless arguments and debates with people who don’t want to hear what Scripture has to say anyway! It is a waste of time, and it is a distraction from serving Jesus.
Take a break from social media. Let go of the need to comment every time you see a divisive post or read/hear an offensive comment. Those who cause division are not serving Jesus! But you are; and you have better things to do.
So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down. Why should the work cease while I leave it and go down to you?” – Neh. 6:3
Prayer:
Father, give me grace to deal with people who are divisive. Show me to whom You want me to talk, and with whom You want me to engage; and help me to avoid the rest! Jesus is the only One who gets my attention and focus, from this day forward!
