Commentary from Pastor Michael White:
…this Ezra came up from Babylon; and he was a skilled scribe in the Law of Moses, which the Lord God of Israel had given. The king granted him all his request, according to the hand of the Lord his God upon him…For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the Law of the Lord, and to do it, and to teach statutes and ordinances in Israel. – Ezra 7:6, 10
God wanted to transform the “region beyond the River” (v 21). God’s people were rebuilding the city of Jerusalem, and they needed help! So what did He do? He sent His Word. God sent Ezra the scribe to teach God’s Word to His people!
When you live your life according to God’s Word, you will succeed. You will prosper! Remember what God told Joshua:
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. – Joshua 1:8
Could life really be this simple? Is God really saying that if you “meditate in” His Word “day and night” and do what His Word says, you will succeed? That it doesn’t matter what college you went to, what type of family you came from, or what type of opportunities you’ve had in your life? That all that matters is that you keep His Word?
Try it. Tell me how it goes! Because the more I love His Word and forsake everything else, the more success seems to come.
Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. – Deut. 28:1
Prayer:
Father, thank You for making life so simple! All I need is Your Word; and all I need to do is follow Your Word! Help me to never forget that keeping Your Word – hearing what You say and doing what You say – is all that matters in the end, in Jesus’ name.
